SANAA - Yemeni
military resume operations
against Al Qaeda in his country. In the latest
operation, 28 members of Al Qaeda were killed
in a battle with Yemeni
troops in the south of the country.
Yemen's Defense Ministry said the party, this battle occurred in the city of Zara, Abyan province.
"In addition to killing 28 members of Al Qaeda, we managed to capture two top brass," the Yemeni Defense Ministry statement.
Southern region of Yemen's Al Qaeda became the basis for this defense. They took over the town in the area last year, after the government is focusing on dealing with anti-government protests.
The Ministry of Defense claimed nearly 200 militants of Al Qaeda have been killed since the fighting in the province of Abyan. Yemeni forces often lose maneuverability of the Al Qaeda, since they are often forced local residents to contribute to the fight against government forces.
Al Qaeda's Yemeni branch, which is commonly known as AQAP is the tissue that is considered the most dangerous terrorists in the Arab region. While in some areas of Yemen, the group has held a de facto government and implementing their version of Islamic sharia.
