PASADENA, Pluto had neighbors much. Named Sedna, are neighbors Pluto
was discovered in 2003 and orbits the Sun from a distance of more than two times
the distance of the Sun-Pluto.
Previously, it was estimated Sedna-sized 2/3 the size of Pluto. However, recent studies have found that Sedna is smaller, measuring only 43 per cent of Pluto.
The new study conducted by Andras Pal of Konkoy Laboratory in Hungary and colleagues. They use the Herschel Space Observatory's European Space Agency (ESA) for the detection of Sedna by infrared.
"Seda is very cold," said Pal. Celestial body that was supposedly the tenth planet in our solar system is orbiting at a distance of 13 billion kilometers and has a temperature of -253 degrees Celsius.
Herschel's observations show that Seda reflect more sunlight than the siduga. This indicates that the object space is so small and looks dim.
"We expect larger objects and the dark," said Pal like. Diameter of Sedna is only 995 kilometers, smaller than Pluto's moon, Charon.
Mike Brown, an astronomer at the California Institute of Technology, who discovered Sedna in 2003 said, "We never good measurements before."
Pluto was originally thought to also larger than Mercury but smaller than Mars. Subsequent research showed that Pluto's size is only 1/2 Mercury.
The results Pal has entered into an online research archive arXiv.org. The study will be published in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics Letters.
