Shanghai - With a victory in the Malaysian GP, Ferrari welcomed China's third series with caution. F1 2012 car admittedly less
quickly than competitors.
Colored by heavy rains and fierce fight with Sergio Perez, Fernando Alonso managed to finish ahead of the race in Sepang three weeks ago. With Ferrari is still less rapidly than Red Bull and McLaren Mercedes, the results are clearly encouraging the Prancing Horse camp.
But when the race continues in Shanghai this weekend, Ferrari chose to be cautious. They realized that the car rather than the current fastest, lanju F2012 still lost nearly one second.
"I certainly did not expect to have a driver who leads the standings. From the beginning of testing (pre season) we realized there were some issues still to be resolved. Everyone at the plant continues to work hard, because we have a long journey," said Ferrari chief engineer, Pat Fry .
"I think our performance during qualifying in the dry condition is about 0.8 seconds behind the best team," he said in Autosport.
Fry continued, the rain proved to have helped the appearance of Ferrari at the Sepang. A similar condition occurs when the free practice sessions in Australia, where Ferrari is able to perform better on a wet track.
"Humid conditions with low traction tires fit with our cars and eliminating some of the problems we have in the F2012 at this time. You can see it in Melbourne on Friday and repeated sessions during the race in Malaysia," he finished.
