VICTORIA, An unmanned aircraft (drone) MQ-9 Reaper of the United States skidded off the runway and the Seychelles International Airport plunged into the sea vanished, Wednesday (04/04/2012). This is the second incident involving a drone type it in the last four months.
Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) declared, unmanned aircraft suffered a technical problem shortly after takeoff and tried an emergency landing at Seychelles International Airport, located on the island of Mahe in the tourist resort island circuit.
The plane had touched down and bounced several times before it plunged into the sea at the southern end of the runway.
Witnesses said police closed the access road to the end of the runway and blocked reporters who want to see the location of the aircraft terceburnya. There has been no official statement from the U.S. Embassy in Seychelles and is not yet clear the drone flight missions.
Secret diplomatic cable leaked to the 2009 U.S. Embassy said the U.S. operates unmanned aircraft from a base in the Seychelles to flight missions to Somalia and other areas in the Horn of Africa. Local sources in the Seychelles, said the planes were used to track the pirates in the waters off the coast of Somalia.
