Former German international defender Andreas Brehme, have an opinion if the greatness of Lionel Messi currently exceeds Diego Maradona. Brehme said Messi as the player who is smarter than his senior in Argentina.
Brehme who participated in bringing Germany to win the 1990 World Cup by beating Argentina with Maradona was in the final, with Barcelona's Messi praised performance as being a genius in the field.
"I would not be able to stop him (Messi). He's a phenomenal player. He caught my attention when the Champions League final against Manchester United. He was able to make the hassles of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand," said Brehme told El Pais.
"He's better than Maradona in my opinion. He has won everything. He would use his brain. It is not owned by a Maradona," said Brehme.
Ironically, though brilliant career at club level, Messi is currently capable of delivering his country a world championship, an achievement that has embraced the legend, Maradona.
