MOSCOW, - Russia will put a new air defense system antiserangan, S-400 Triumf, in the Russian Far East, near the "hot spots" in East Asia. Placement of the missile system will be carried out before the end of this year.
"We accept the system S-400 Triumf a new one this year as part of the modernization program," said Air Force commander and the Russian Far East Air Defense Colonel Sergei Dronov, Friday (03/30/2012).
Air defense in the region still rely on a modified version of the system S-300 Soviet-era relics.
Dronov not mention the number of S-400 that will be stationed in the Far East. However, mid-March the Russian Air Force Chief of Staff Major General Viktor Bondarev said at least one battalion of S-400 was prepared in the Nakhodka, which is located on the north side of the Sea of Japan.

Russian armed forces currently has three active S-400 regiments, two placed near Moscow, and another in the Baltic region, Europe. S-400 system equipped with medium-range missiles to a distance to intercept all forms of air threats, ranging from aircraft, unmanned aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles, with a range of up to 400 kilometers and an altitude of 30 kilometers.
